Job Summary:

The Director of Grounds will oversee the grounds and related SLUH properties.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Groundskeeper

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Inspects school grounds and related properties on a regular basis in order to determine that high standards of workmanship, cleanliness and safety are maintained by grounds personnel.
  • Coordinates and designs all landscaping activities and ornamental plantings on campus and related properties.
  • Recommends and orders purchase of necessary grounds equipment and supplies.
  • Receives, stores and issues grounds materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment and service records on all equipment.
  • Directs use of grounds equipment as well as use and safety procedures.
  • Supervises daily work assignments for grounds employees involving snow and leaf removal, grounds maintenance and grass cutting.
  • Coordinates all field irrigation and maintenance and striping on school fields and Compton-Drew Field.
  • Evaluates continuation/cancellation of after school events due to inclement weather.
  • Develops field care programs for seeding, fertilizing, aerating and weed control.
  • Oversees field maintenance and related activities on school-used fields at Forest Park.
  • Assists Director of Facilities in planning and reviewing annual department budget.
  • Attends weekly meetings with and compiles reports for the Director of Facilities.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff and community members.
  • Observe and report violations of safety and health codes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to operate various types of power equipment including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Demonstrate problem solving and responsible decision-making skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
  • Knowledge of security procedures and safety operations of motor vehicle.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of experience¬†
  • Valid driver's license

 Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods driving, sitting, walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling.
  • Must be physically able to operate power equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
